GLADIATORS PHOTO TEE

GLADIATORS PHOTO TEE

£54.00
‘GLADIATORS’ is a 163cm x 111cm work made of photographs of English roses, blown up, cut out and reclustered, and a postcard of Coventry Cathedral after The Blitz.

I read an article some time ago about the flora and fauna of the Colosseum. Until its ‘tidying up’ — a process started by the nationalist forces that captured Rome in 1870 and completed under Mussolini’s rule  — there was plenty of the usual, but much of the type that was not indigenous to Italy or even Europe too. The botanists of the time’s theory was that seeds had been brought over on the fur and in the stomachs of animals imported from Africa for gladiator fights — about 1,500-odd years prior.

I was thinking about this, and about our own ability to survive and even flourish in situations we’re put in when the opportunity to exhibit in RESTIR arose.

The work will be on view until the 18th of April, and the tee shirt is only otherwise available for purchase there.
